Arsenal have confirmed that they have recalled Brazilian winger Marquinhos from his disappointing loan spell at Ligue 1 side Nantes.
The Gunners made this announcement known through their social media page, saying, "Marquinhos has been recalled from his loan spell at Ligue 1 side FC Nantes, where he has been since the start of the season."
"The 20-year-old Brazil youth international will soon join up with his Under-23 national team for their 2024 CONMEBOL Pre-Olympic Tournament held in Venezuela."
"Our forward will be working hard to ensure Brazil are one of the two South American national teams that qualify for the 2024 Olympics Men's Football Tournament hosted in France this summer."
"We welcome Marquinhos back to the club and wish him all the best for the international tournament and his continued development."
The Brazilian joined the Nantes side at the beginning of the season on loan but failed to live up to expectations, playing just 149 minutes of football.
Marquinhos’s unsuccessful spell at Nantes saw him made just seven appearances with an assist to his name. Arsenal paid £3 million to sign Marquinhos from São Paulo, beating Wolverhampton Wanderers to the signature of the youngster.
He announced himself to the Arsenal spectators with a fantastic goal on his debut against FC Zurich in the Europa League on September 8, 2022.
In the first half of last season, Marquinhos made six appearances under Mikel Arteta. He spent the second half of last season on loan with Championship side Norwich City.
He also failed to make an impact while he was at Norwich, scoring a goal and creating an assist in 11 matches. However, it is left to Mikel Arteta to keep the Brazilian or send him on another loan.
Marquinhos Age
The Brazilian was born on April 7, 2003, in the city of São Paulo, Brazil. He is currently 23 years old, with a height of 5 feet and 9 inches.
Marquinhos Stats
He made 71 appearances, scoring 10 goals and creating eight assists in all competitions. The Brazilian had received five yellow cards and a red card so far in his career.
Out of the 10 goals scored, four were for São Paulo, one for Norwich, one for the Arsenal senior team, and four for Arsenal U-21.
He has made senior team appearances for his national team, Brazil; however, in the future, the youngster is likely to lead the attack of his national team.
Currently, he is trying every possible means to get back to his previous form at São Paulo that made Arsenal show interest in him.
