Boat mishap leads to death of five traders in Ondo state


About five traders have died in a boat mishap in Ondo state recently. This incident happened in Ugbo-Nla in Ilaje Local Government Area.

These people had gone to buy seafood at a local market in that area and were unfortunately involved in the incident.

The boat conveying them had capsized and 5 people died while only one person survive because he had used the life jacket.

The National President of the Ondo State Fishermen Association of Nigeria who is Ambassador Orioye Benedict has related to the sad incident. He agency and pleaded with the Ondo state government to enforce the use of life jackets so as to prevent such mishaps in the future.

He says that the use of life jackets would help significantly. It would ensure safety and increase the chances of survival during emergencies like this.

He says it was the life jacket which saved the only survivor. It had kept him until rescue came. He emphasized on this to highlight how useful a life jacket is.

He then said the government should also invest in water transportation and support those existing to promote safe travels.
