Following the seizure of power by the military forces in Niger, the ECOWAS leaders have ordered the immediate invasion of Niger Republic by its regional force after reaching a consensus at their meeting in Abuja yesterday.

The ECOWAS strongly believe that the political situation in Niger poses a threat to the democratic government of other African countries.
During the meeting on Thursday, the ECOWAS president, Omar Touray said, "We direct the committee of defense staff to activate the ECOWAS standby force with all its elements immediately."
The coup leaders were already given an ultimatum of seven days to return power back to President Bazoum or face military intervention.
However, the ECOWAS remains firm in their decision to restore democratic power to Niger especially with the support of the West.
