Solanke saw off the competition from other top players in the English elite division to clinch the award. It is not the first time the Reading-born English forward has been distinguished with a prestigious football award.

At Chelsea, the FIFA Youth World Cup winner struggled to break into Chelsea's starting eleven all to no avail despite his brilliant campaign at the youth levels. He did not make any appearance for the club and was loaned to Vitesse in 2016.
At Vitesse, Solankeade 27 appearances for the club, scoring 7 goals. He was spotlighted by Liverpool, who signed him in 2017. In his two-year spell with the Reds, the English forward managed only 21 appearances for the club, scoring one goal.
In 2019, he joined Bournemouth on a long-term contract. He has made 180 league appearances for the club, scoring 65 goals
Solanke has played for all levels of England youth teams but has made only one appearance for the senior men's national team.
