
On Thursday, June 9th, 2022, Alh. Ahmad Umar, the longest-serving Zamfara monarch and the Emir of Kwatarkwashi in the state's Bungudu Local Government Area, joined his ancestors.
Umar, the state's eldest emir, died in his palace after a long illness, according to a press statement signed by Alh. Kabiru Balarabe and distributed to journalists in Gusau, the state capital. He was buried in accordance with Islamic edicts.
On March 17, 1961, Sultan Abubakar III crowned Alhaji Ahmad Umar Mai Kwatarwas, after he had been on the throne for 61 years.
In March 2021, he commemorated his 60th year on the throne in a lavish ceremony attended by important traditional leaders from northern Nigeria, including Alhaji Sa'ad Abubakar III, Sultan of Sokoto.
