Manchester United set to miss out on a percentage of Mason Greenwood's transfer fee following his loan move to Getafe during the summer transfer window.
The Spanish outfit, Getafe have found themselves in a win-win situation with the La Liga side holding a 20 percent sell-on clause should the Englishman go elsewhere before the expiration of his loan deal.
According to reports, Getafe are contemplating a permanent move for the 22-year-old striker due to a formerly unknown clause.
Football Insider claimed that in a bid to enhance the loan deal and convince the Madrid-based club side to make the move for Greenwood, Getafe have a 20 percent sell-on clause and they will only have to pay 80 percent if they do make his move permanent.
What happened to Mason Greenwood?
Greenwood departed Man United for Spain on transfer deadline day after then-chief executive Richard Arnold made a U-turn on his conclusion to re-register him into Erik ten Hag's team after a rape and domestic violence case against him were dropped in February 2023.
Ten Hag wanted to have the 22-year-old at his disposal this season, but his plans were reversed due to internal and external backlash.
Greenwood has been gradually getting back to top form at Getafe, scoring four goals and dashing out three assists in his first 13 outings.
His eye-catching performances have reportedly caught the attention of several clubs across Europe, including Lazio and Real Sociedad.
Greenwood is declared to be enjoying life in Madrid, and Getafe are eager to extend his stay beyond next summer.
Greenwood's long-term future remains blurred for the time being. He has a contract at Man United until the summer of 2025 but is not required to play for the club again.
However, the Red Devils have not yet made a final decision on the 22-year-old.
Getafe have made it obvious they are interested in keeping Greenwood and may encounter competition from other clubs.
Angel Corres, Getafe president when asked about the potential deal, said; "We have not talked about price. We have talked about looking at the situation and seeing what they propose because there has also been a change of shareholding there at Manchester United.
"But we are still happy with the meetings and with the videoconferences we have with them".
He added; "It is still too early to consider either continuing for one more season or that they will propose a price and we will commit the whole (of the contract) because we have a percentage and to buy the rest".
What's Next For Greenwood?
Greenwood will continue the season with Getafe and will be looking forward to adding to his tally of four goals and three assists in all competitions for the Spanish outfit.
