A private radio station in Enugu State has been damaged by a thunderstorm. It was discovered the event occurred on Saturday evening amid a downpour in the state's Ngwo and New Market areas, in Enugu North Local Government Area.
Unfortunately, the incident was alleged to have affected a station employee who was there at the time.
According to a station employee who confirmed the incident on the condition of anonymity, this is the fourth time lightning has struck the station.
The afflicted coworker, Humphrey, a sports writer, was not on duty, but because he lives near the station, he always stays until the transmitter is turned off every night.
He was on air when the station was struck by lightning. He passed out before being brought to the hospital, but we are thankful that he has regained consciousness.
He was released on Sunday morning, and we give all the credit to God. This is not the first or second time lightning has struck the station according to research.
The radio station, which broadcasts on 99.9 FM, is located on top of the Ngwo hills in Enugu North LGA.
The positioning of both the transmitter and the station in the same structure has been highlighted as a possible cause of the lightning by experts.
Attempts to reach the station On the phone with the Head of Family Love FM, Mr. Celestine Ugwuanyi, was futile because he could not be reached.
His phone was claimed to have been turned off at the time of writing this report.
