Hotel Rwanda hero, Paul Rusesabagina set free

Paul Rusesabagina, the man who inspired the Hollywood movie “Hotel Rwanda,” has been set free from prison.
This happened after his prison sentence was on Friday, commuted by the president of the country who is Paul Kagame.
This commutation was after he had asked the president, Kagame for a pardon in a letter in October 2022.
Paul Rusesabagina is a human rights activist from Rwanda.
He was arrested about 2 years ago by Rwandan authorities. This was while he was traveling in 2020.
He was found to be guilty of charges related to terrorism in the year 2021. He was then sentenced to 25 years in prison.
One of the spokesperson of the government mentioned that his sentence had been "commuted by presidential order".
Mr Rusesabagina is a 68 year old man. He is known popularly for saving about 1,200 people during the 1994 genocide.
He saved many Rwandans during this period by sheltering them in the hotel he managed.
He worked as the manager of the Hôtel des Mille Collines located in Kigali.
