Lagos State government has issued a 3-week ultimatum to producers, and distributors of Styrofoam packs and single-use plastics to clear their stock.
Recall that the Lagos State Ministry for Environment and Water Resources headed by Tokunbo Wahab announced the ban on single-use plastics and Styrofoam packs on 21st January 2024. This decision was influenced by the harmful effects the single-use plastics and Styrofoam packs were having on the ecosystem. The LASG said the decision was borne out of unhealthy distribution and disposal of these packs, especially in drainage channels across the state.
At a meeting with the Lagos State Ministry of Environment and Water Resources and representatives of the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria, the government said there is no going back on its decision and full enforcement of the ban will begin three weeks from now.
