After winning the Best Afrobeats Award for his hit song "Calm Down" at the MTV VMAs last month, Nigerian singer Divine Ikubor popularly known as Rema wins the Best Global Artiste in Africa at the 2023 Trace Awards.

The inaugural award show which was held yesterday at the BK Arena in Kigali, Rwanda was graced by various A-list celebrities and top personalities in the African entertainment industry including Davido, Mr Eazi, Yemi Alade, D-banj and Ghana's Black Sherif.
Apart from Rema, other Nigerian artists also won outstanding awards. Davido won the award for Best Male Artist and Best Collaboration for his song of the summer "Unavailable" with Musa Keys. Yemi Alade won the Best Music Video award for her song "Baddie". Mr Eazi won the Changemaker award for his immense contributions to discovering talents in the Nigerian music industry with his talent company Empawa Africa.
2Baba won the Lifetime Achievement Award for his tremendous achievements in the music scene. The self-acclaimed African Giant, Burna Boy also went home with the Album of the Year award for his 6th studio album Love Damini flooring his counterparts, Wizkid's More Love Less Ego and Davido's Timeless.
While giving his acceptance speech, he thanked his fans The Ravers and everyone streaming his music home and abroad for their unwavering support. He also expressed his gratitude to his senior colleagues who paved the way for him saying he hopes he is making them proud.
He thanked his music producer Andre Vibes and London for helping him bring his song "Calm Down" to life. He said, "Seeing what Calm Down is doing globally is huge. I owe it to Andre Vibes and London for making it happen."
Furthermore, Rema gave credit to his label bosses Don Jazzy of Mavin Records and D'Prince of Jonzing World for their undying support since he launched his singing career.
Rema ended his acceptance speech with a bang while serenading his raving fans with his hit song "Calm Down" as he walked away from the stage.
