
The south-Eastern states of Abia, Imo, Anambra, Ebonyi, and Enugu have launched a southeastern security system, after the like of the SouthWest counterparts, after recent attacks, one of which saw inmates at the correctional service center in Owerri escaped.
They on Sunday launched the security network, 'Ebube Agu' to fight terrorism and crime in the region. Ebube Agu which means 'Wonderful Tiger'.
According to Ebonyi state governor, Governor Umahi, he said the outfit will serve as a joint vigilante for the southeastern region and have her headquarters at Enugu.
The security summit was held in Owerri and in attendance were, the host governor, Hope Uzodimma of Imo state, Governor of Abia State, Okezie Ikpeazu, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State, Willie Obiano of Anambra state, Ebonyi and David Umahi of Ebonyi state.
Also in attendance was President-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo worldwide, Professor George Obiozor and other top security chiefs in the region.
This action was taken following recent attacks on the region. There was an attack on Anambra state gubernatorial candidate, Prof Charles Soludo in his hometown, attacks on Police stations in Imo states, amongst others. This is a swift action to curb the rising unrest in the region.
