FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike has told Nigerians to stop encouraging kidnappers by crowdfunding for victims.
Last week, the news was filled with numerous stories of kidnapping in the country, especially in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja. There were stories of families, students, and children being kidnapped from their homes.
In a recent video, Nyesom Wike said while it is painful to be at the mercy of these bandits, it is wrong for the public to raise money for victims of kidnapping. Wike stated that the aim is not to encourage kidnapping but to stop it. He also urged the media houses to publish useful information that would help them in fighting against kidnapping.
He stated, "You're not helping us. You're helping them to begin to make demands. Why would I give a criminal 100M? If I give 100M, will he not kidnap me tomorrow? I know it's painful. Nobody wants it but we can't stop it this way"
