Nigerian fast rising rapper Tochukwu Gbubemi Ojogwu popularly known as Odumodublvck has told his industry colleagues that there is nothing special about being an independent artist.

Odumodublvck said sometimes, 30% of something could be more than 100% of nothing. He expressed that as an artist, he has done everything by himself to better his craft.

He said, "I've sharpened my armor, I've cleaned my bullet, I've cleaned my gun, my shield, I've entered inside my armor tank. I only need direction to point me to where the war is happening. That's what the record label does."

He stated that a lot of indie artists tend to brag about not being under any label but in the real sense, there's nothing to brag about. He said even artists like Beyonce, Kendrick Lamar are under a record label despite how successful they are.

"Fela was under a label. Even Bob Marley. You can't do it yourself. Even our Lord Jesus Christ, when he came, he took 12 people with him. And that's God. If you say you want to do it on your own, how far can you go?", he added.

Odumodublvck said indie artists may appear greedy because they want everything to themselves and don't want anyone to benefit from them. They want to cover all the music production process by themselves without any help.

He said he doesn't want to learn how to produce records because there are some people who were born to do it. He mentioned that he has some producer friends who help him with his songs. "I tell them, 'If I start producing my records, they're not gonna eat so I'll let you'. Let's move together as a unit. We'll meet a label that will take us to the biggest level."

He stated that if being an indie artist is beneficial, Beyonce wouldn't be under a record label despite how wealthy she is. He said artists need people to amplify their talent as an artist. He said being independent is good for a short period of time to avoid signing the wrong deals but it is better to meet those who can amplify your vision.
