
An improvised explosive device (IED) planted by members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its armed wing, the Eastern Security Network (ESN), exploded, injuring two members of the outlawed group, according to the Nigerian Army.
In a statement, Brig. Gen. Onyema Nwachukwu, director of Army Public Relations, said the incident happened on Wednesday along Eke Ututi-Orsu Road in Orsu local government area of Imo State.
While attempting to evade the troops onslaught against terrorists in the area, the dissidents inadvertently stepped on an IED that they had earlier planted along several routes in Orlu, Orsu local government area.
In a failed attempt to harm the troops, the outlawed group has planted IEDs along troop patrol routes, he said.
As a result, the Army spokesperson urged all people in the Southeast to alert troops to any possible areas where explosives have been buried so that they can be properly evacuated and disposed
