Niger military leader, Gen. Abdourahamane Tchiani has revealed that the military junta will be handing over power to the civilian government in the next three years.

He revealed this in a speech during the meeting with the ECOWAS delegates on Saturday, 19th August.
Tchiani said the junta is on its way establishing a committee which will be given the task of forming a new constitution for the country.
He also commented on the regional body's possible military intervention saying that the junta is open to negotiations but they are also ready to defend themselves if the need arises.
After the delegates meeting with the ousted president Bazoum, Niger prime minister Lamine Zeine, assured them that Bazoum is safe and nothing will happen to him while in detention.
