The Gabonese military has overthrown the democratic government following the announcement of the general election results in Gabon yesterday.

The military force announced on national television yesterday that they have taken over the government and all institutions of government have been dissolved.
They also added that all boundaries in the country had been shut till further notice.
Furthermore, the military leaders have canceled the election results that declared President Ali Bongo the winner.

One of the soldiers on live television announced, "We have decided to defend peace by putting an end to the current regime. To this end, the general elections of 26 August 2023 and the truncated results are canceled.
All the institutions of the republic are dissolved: the government, the Senate, the National Assembly and the Constitutional Court until further notice"
Since 1970, Ali Bongo and his family have been in power for the past 53 years. President Ali Bongo has been in power since 2009 after his father's death.
It was reported that Ali Bongo's win was a fraudulent one and annulling the election was the best way to end his family's 53-year reign.
Bongo is now under house arrest following the military takeover in Gabon yesterday.
