One of the most talented artists spearheading the Afrobeats movement home and abroad, Nigerian singer Asake aka Mr Money is unique for his authentic Fuji-fusion sound and melodic compositions.
Ahmed Ololade popularly known as Asake is a Nigerian singer and songwriter. Asake was born on 13th January 1995 in Lagos, Nigeria. Asake's stage name is his mother's name "Asake" which means chosen to be cherished. According to Asake, he was often called "Omo Asake" which means Asake's child when he was in the cultural group. From there, the name stuck and he decided to go with it.
Asake began his journey from Obafemi Awolowo University where he studied Theatre and Dramatic Arts. He and his friends who are now his colleagues, Fireboy DML, Cheque, Yhemolee started singing together from the university. Asake started releasing music in 2017. His single "Mr Money" gave him little recognition in 2020. Fast forward to 2022, Asake got his big break when he signed to Olamide's record label YBNL and released his first single under the label titled "Omo Ope" featuring Olamide. This gained him widespread recognition and success in the music industry. Few months later, he released his first body of work "Ololade EP". The song "Sungba" off the EP was a success and this earned him a feature with Burna Boy on the remix.
On September 8th 2022, Asake aka Ololade Mr Money released his debut album "Mr Money With The Vibe" which was well received home and abroad. The album produced major hits like "Peace Be Unto You", "Terminator", "Sungba", "Joha", "Organize" and many more. Asake released his second studio album "Work of Art" in June 2023. The album debuted at No. 66 on the Billboard 200. According to Turntable charts, it is one of the most streamed albums of 2023.
Asake won the award for BreakOut Artist of the Year at the 2022 All Africa Music Awards. His nomination as the Best African Music Act at the 2022 MOBO Awards earned him his first international nomination. He was nominated for the Best New International Act at the 2023 BET Awards. In August 2023, Asake became the 4th Nigerian artist to sell out the London's O2 Arena, joining Nigerian superstars Wizkid, Burna Boy and Davido. On September 4, 2023, Asake won the award for the highly competitive Next Rated category at the 2023 Headies Awards.
